Bail Bonding Today |
|
We
have traveled a long way since the early days of
bail. Today, financial obligations of each
individual bonding company take the place of
individuals in their stead. Today, the individual
bondsman works at no expense to the taxpayer and the
criminal justice system. The bondsman being
responsible to the court has a vested interest in
seeing that the defendant meets his court date.
Should the bondsman not be able to located his
client he is responsible to the court for 100% of
the face value of that bond. The bondsman is out any
expenses used in seeking and apprehending that
individual. |

How Bail Bonding Came To Be:
It has been theorized that the American bail system has
evolved from the early form of Anglo-Saxon justice. The
Shire Reeve (Sheriff) was in charge of detaining criminals
for the kings court. With no jails available, the early
castle dungeons were used for the violators of crimes. The
individuals standing good for the re-appearance of these
criminals, stood good in lieu of their crimes. When the
criminal did not re-appear, they would suffer the
consequences of the crimes of the criminal that they
represented.
